COMMUNITY NEWS The ‘Filipina’ has her day New set of offi cers for APCO The Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO) inducted its offi cers for 2018-2020 recently. The new set of offi cers are: Violeta Escultura, president; Cora Paras, senior vice president; Charles Chan, junior vice president; Linda Price, secretary; Rita Agostino, treasurer; Alma Middlebrook, assistant treasurer, Richard Ford, auditor; Ralph Imbrago, public relations offi cer. Board of directors are Cora Bojarski, Emma Braceros, Fe Hayward, Josie Maynard, Mick Miguel, Glorina Papaiannou, Albert Prias, and Linda Trinidad. Filipino- Australian from Kogarah NSW Chynna Sandra Palis (pictured at right being crowned) fi nished 1st Runner-Up representing the Philippines. Another Filipino- Australian, Theresa Mariano, was 3rd Runner-Up also representing the Philippines. She’s from Queensland. Photo: VINCENT TANEDO www.kalatas.com.au The visiting Mayor of Taguig, Rizal, Lani Lopez-Cayetano, a member of the Philippine delegation to the ASEAN Special Summit in Sydney recently, was the forum’s keynote speaker. Mayor Cayetano emphasised the importance of women in the society. She said that women’s leadership and resilience made the world, the country, and the lives of many people in dealing with the challenges of family, career and fulfilment their dreams. The Mayor shared her life experiences, challenges and successes in establishing the Progressive Ladies League of the Philippines to promote women’s rights and welfare. The forum sessions included opportunities and challenges for Filipino-Australian health professionals, migrant women’s journey, women’s health and well-being with a Filipina perspective, wealth through property investing, and real-life case studies of women in social work. n AK NewsMagazine, Vol 8 No 7 | APRIL 2018 11
