MONTH CELEBRATION PUSHES
FOR POSITIVE PARENTING
THE Provincial Government of
Cavite through the Provincial
Council for the Protection
of Children (PCPC) and the
Provincial Social Welfare and
Development Office (PSWDO),
joined hands in the celebration
of the 2nd Regional Children’s
Month Celebration hosted by
the province of Laguna on
November 16, 2018 held at the
Cultural Center of Laguna, with
the theme: “Isulong: Tamang
Pag-aaruga Para sa Lahat ng
Bata.” The festivity was part of
the Juvenile Justice and Welfare
Consciousness (JJWC) Week
Celebration with the theme:
“Lipunan, Bata at Magulang,
Sabay Sabay Para sa Kaunlaran.”

Provincial
Administrator,
welcomed and thanked all the
attendees on behalf of Governor
Ramil L. Hernandez. Mr. Jacob
B. Taguinod, Regional Director,
Council for the Welfare of
Children (CWC) explained the
story behind the Children’s
Month theme while Ms. Joanne
G. Caño, Social Welfare Officer
III, RJJWC IV-A discussed the
RJJWC Awareness Week. Ms.
Lorenza M. Francisco, Federation
Manager, Reina Federation of
Parents Association, Inc. gave an
overview on the United Nation’s
Convention on the Rights of

the 2018 JJWC Week Regional
Celebration, the recitation of
Panatang Makabata and a closing
message by Assistant Regional
Director for Operations DSWD
IV-A Lucia Almeda.
The

Empowering men for a Gender
sensitive society and fight against
violence

CAVITE

Numerous
participants mostly focal persons
from the Local Government
Units, Provincial Government-
Environment
and
Natural
Resources Office(PG-ENRO),
the
academe
representing
the Cavite State University
(CavSU) and Colegio de Amore,
uniformed men from the Armed
Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
and Philippine National Police
(PNP), Faith Based Organization
and members of the Transport
Group Sector attended the
3-day Capability Development
Training recently held here at the
Ceremonial Hall.
The
event
titled
“Combating Gender Based
Violence and Criminalities
through Men’s Involvement”
was initiated by the Provincial
Government of Cavite thru the
Provincial Social Welfare and
Development Office and in
coordination with the Cavite
Gender and Development Focal
Point System with the objective
of eliminating sexual violence
and strengthens equality in
society.
Welcoming the guest
speakers and participants to
the event, Atty. Khervy Reyes,
Officer-in-Charge of Provincial
Cooperative Livelihood and
Entrepreneurial
Development
Office (PCLEDO) encouraged
everyone to be open-minded
about gender equality.
Meanwhile,
Cavite
Governor
Boying
Remulla
expressed his belief on the
importance of equality among
sexes that would bring forth
peace and harmony and there is
no weaker sex, further adding
“preventive
action
against
violence should start in the family
to harmonize the community and
the whole country.”
The first day of the
workshop dealt with topics on
the difference between sex and
gender and the manifestation of
gender biases and how to deal
with it, which was explained by
Mr. Dionisio B. Dalusong, OIC-
Chief of Promotive Services
Division of the Department of
Social Welfare and Development
Field Office IV-A.
The second day gave
participants training to end
gender based violence and
criminalities among women
and other vulnerable sectors
including the children, senior
citizens, persons with disability
and LGBT in the community
with the involvement of men.
Also, topics “Why men get into
Trouble?, Patriarchy and Men’s
Power in Filipino Culture and
Domestic Violence against Men”
gave an insight on the power
and problems encountered and
experienced by men.
Also,
clarifications
on International Mandates and
Laws and Protection Policies
on Gender Based Violence
Prevention and Criminalities, RA
7877 “Anti Sexual Harassment
Act of 1995” and RA 9262 “Anti
Violence Against Women and
their Children Act of 2004” were
made during the day’s agenda.
The third and last day
was made more interesting and
informative with the discussion
led by Disaster Response
Management Chief and DSWD
MOVE National President Mr.
Ricky Bunao talking about “Men
as Fathers and would be Fathers-
Its Roles and Responsibilities
on Effective Parenting, Men’s
Role on Preventing GBV,
Criminalities and Promotion
of a Safe Workplace and
Communities (MERGE-IMAGE
Advocacy), and Men’s Role on
Reproductive Health (Katropa
Module).“
The
objective
of
the workshop was supported
with the introduction of Men
Opposed to Violence against
Women Everywhere (MOVE
Philippines)
providing
the
participants with the background
and advocacy of the organization
and how it could help and
encourage active participation to
eliminate gender-based violence
in the region.
During the event, the
participants signed the Pledge
of Commitment in support to the
advocacy being active members
to help end violence against
women and children.
To close the event,
Ms. Darylvy Avila, Social
Welfare Officer IV of PSWDO
thanked the participants for
their enthusiasm and active
participation during the 3-day
workshop, as she added, “that
it is imperative to gain the real
essence of coping up with this
kind of training to have a gender
fair society and that everyone
should be a willing partner in
