Caviteños warmly welcomed guest and keynote speaker, Senator Risa Hontiveros, Chairperson Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality. Senator Hontiveros put emphasis on women’s rights and the big role that women play in cooperatives. With this, the lady senator asked cooperatives to support the implementation of the Expanded Maternity Leave providing 55 more days on paid maternity leave, from 60 to 105 days. Likewise, Senator Hontiveros disclosed that the bill includes provision of seven days transferable leave to men, to be known as the “daddy quota,” which can be an example of GAD mainstreaming that promotes shared responsibility on child care and equal parenting. Mojica, Provincial Cooperative Livelihood and Entrepreneurial INCULCATING THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF COOPERATIVE AMONG STUDENTS THRU PROVINCIAL KOOPQUIZ As part of the 2018 Cavite Cooperative Month Celebration, the Provincial Cooperative, Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCLEDO) in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) facilitated the Provincial KOOPQUIZ held at the PCLEDO Training Room in Trece Martires City on October 25, 2018. Joined by Grade 10 students from nine (9) public and private schools from various municipalities and cities in the province, it offers the students an avenue for learning in the field of cooperatives and brings awareness on the significance and contribution of Cooperatives in social and economic development in the country. The contestants of the KOOPQUIZ were the champions in the Municipal/City Level Competition which was conducted last September. Fr. Arturo Joseph M. Balagat, Chairperson of Cavite PCDC thanked and welcomed all the student participants and their coaches. The questions being categorized as easy, average and difficult were readily answered by the students. Ms. Bea A. Samonte of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta-Molino was declared the KOOPQUIZ Champion, while Mr. Tyrone B. Lofamia of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School-Main and Ms. Stephanie Joyce Silva of Imus National High School-Main were the KOOPQUIZ First Runner-up and Second Runner-up, respectively who also received trophies, medals and cash worth P10,000.00, P6,000.00 and P4,000.00 correspondingly. Certificates of participation were also awarded to all participating schools, students and Cooperative Development Councils. The event was concluded by a closing remark delivered by Ms. Rowena S. Fruto, Provincial Cooperative Development Specialist, CDA- Cavite who wished that the event be conducted yearly Development Office (PCLEDO) head, who introduced the senator prior to her keynote speech, took the opportunity to thank Senator Hontiveros and everyone who attended the event , making the occasion a huge success. Meanwhile, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) former Administrator Mercedes Castillo provided a holistic overview on the theme “Cavite Cooperatives: Stepping up with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through Gender and Development Mainstreaming,” linking women and the development process towards a stronger organization that could successfully contribute to economic progress. She even encouraged participants to be GAD advocates and must take the initiative to incorporate GAD activities in their respective cooperatives. continue to page 3 IN view of the celebration of the National Youth Day, the Provincial Government of Cavite thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office in partnership with the Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines spearheaded the event with the theme “Mental Health Awareness for Youth” desired to raise the consciousness of the young people about mental health issues and promote a healthy lifestyle and mentally-resilient community on October 30, 2018 at the Provincial Gymnasium in Trece Martires City. Ms. Brendalyn L. Salazar, Social Welfare Officer III of PSWDO facilitated the whole-day session which was attended by 160 youths from different cities and municipalities in the province. During the assembly, National Secretary General of Youth for Mental Health Coalition Ms. Ray Alyannah Ysabel Lagasca discussed the topic ” Mental Health for Youth ” as she educated everyone on the right behaviors in dealing with pressure.
