Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro; (born 5 February 1985) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Italian club Juventus and captains the Portugal national team.

As a child, Ronaldo played for amateur team Andorinha.

By age 14, Ronaldo believed he had the ability to play semi-professionally, and agreed with his mother to cease his education in order to focus entirely on football.

At age 16, Ronaldo was promoted from Sporting's youth team.

He subsequently became the first player to play for the club's under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams, the B team, and the first team, all within one season.

On 7 October 2002, Ronaldo made his debut in the Primeira Liga, against Moreirense 3–0 win.

Ronaldo came to the attention of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson in August 2003,who urged to sign him.

Soon thereafter Ronaldo was sold to Spain’s Real Madrid—a club with which he had long been rumoured to want to play—for a then record £80 millionn.

Ronaldo had made his first appearance for Portugal’s full national team against Kazakhstan in August 2003 being a key player in Portugal’s fourth-place finish at the 2006 World Cup and became the full-time captain of the national team in 2008. In 2012 his stellar play led Portugal to the semifinals of the European Championship. Ronaldo came into the 2014 World Cup hot off of his second world player of the year win, but his play at the tournament was spotty, and the entire Portugal team struggled during a group-stage elimination.
