PROVIDES PERFECT END TO
SUMMIT RACING QLD CHAMPS
Benaraby Raceway’s final
round of the 2018 Summit
Racing Queensland
Championship brought
the series to a spectacular
close in late September.
Previously, the series had visited Roma’s
Ironbark Raceway (31 March – 1 April)
and Mackay’s Palmyra Dragway (29-30
June) before an epic one-day finale at
the Gladstone venue on Saturday (22
September).
The prize on offer was a special Copper
ANDRA Xmas Tree trophy and it would
be title winners Harrison Thwaite (Junior
Dragster), Sarah Langridge (Street), Matt
Halpin (Street Bike), Brett Kelly (Super
Street), Noel Bartley (Modified Bike), Laurie
Bonato (Super Sedan), Katie Cunningham
(Modified/Top Sportsman) and Rodney
Hansen (Outlaws) who would hoist the
prestigious trophies at the conclusion of
the day’s running.
Championship runners-up Kilarney Back
(Junior Dragster), Michelle Roydhouse
(Street), Warren Dunn (Street Bike), Richard
Dawe (Super Street), Dallas Everrett
(Modified Bike), Michael Adams (Super
Sedan), Dale Sonogan (Modified/Top
Sportsman) and Russell Grulke (Outlaws)
were awarded championship plaques for
their efforts.
Many of the championship winners had
their hands well and truly full on Saturday
evening, bringing home race day accolades
as well – taking victory in not only the series
but also round three were Thwaite, Halpin,
Kelly, Bartley and Hansen while Langridge
and Cunningham were event runners-
up. Joining them in the event winners’
circle was Series Modified/Top Sportsman
runner-up Sonogan – who set a perfect run
(light and dial-in) in his second round of
eliminations – as well as Hunter Oliver (H2
Racing Junior Bike), Tracy Rieck (Street) and
Earl McCallum (Grulke Concreting Super
Sedan).
The weekend’s racing was supported by
a range of bracket sponsors, including H2
Racing (Junior Bike), Coalroc Contractors
(Junior Dragster), Autobarn (Super Street),
Westlands Engineering and Hydraulics
(Modified Bike), Grulke Concreting (Super
Sedan), Knijff Earthmoving (Modified/
Top Sportsman) and PTW Auto Electrical
(Supercharged Outlaws).
