SKILL LEVEL: II - IV
SKILL LEVEL: I
CONCEPT: Collage is an art form in and of itself,
but it can also be a “laboratory of ideas”
wherein artists or designers conduct experiments in form and content that can be transferred to other mediums, such as painting
or quiltmaking. Its improvisational character
provokes visual surprise, allowing for chance
events and the unconscious mind to intervene
in the creative process. Making collages sharpens formal skills in composition, color and
shape making while highlighting one’s individual creative preferences and inclinations.
CONCEPT: The use of color by an artist can be
both intuitive and intellectual. In this class we
discuss and practice the application of color
and the language we use to describe it through
basic investigations. Media is selected to give
immediate results. Following initial exercises
we invent unique, practical problems to inspire
an intuitive approach in creating color studies
of our own. The goal is to expand our color
vocabulary, giving us concrete results to take
back to our own studios for reference.
SKILL LEVEL: I
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: We make prescribed
color studies on canvas panels or gessoed
paper. We concentrate on the direct application of acrylic or oil paint.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Studio paintings including “alla prima” (wet-on-wet) and indirect processes in oil ̸()5%
