studio intensives - september 2008 September 6 - 19 Sculpture Studio Intensive  Tai Pomara & James Surls    Tuition: $950  Studio Fee: $150 Code: S1413  Enrollment Limit 10 ACTIVITIES:  All handbuilding techniques; drawing, carving, texture, and slip application; cone 6 electric firing, and exploratory and creative exercises. We will watch several slide shows of historical and contemporary work, with ample time for individual projects, group and individual discussions. The September studio session offers more time to work under the guidance of several experienced artists. Class starts 9:00 am, Saturday, September 6, and runs every day for two straight weeks. Faculty demonstrations are every other day, giving ample student work time. There is a surcharge on housing for the extra nights. September 8 - 19 Hand, Eye & Bench: intermediate furniture making Craig Vandall Stevens    Tuition: $900  Studio Fee: $85 Code: W1430  Enrollment Limit 12 PREREQUISITES:  Students desiring quality studio time who have some experience forming, glazing, and firing. Tai Pomara, Goat Sack (detail) James Surls, Me Tree (detail) CONCEPT: Witness the art-making processes of artists James Surls and Tai Pomara first-hand. The two have worked together for ten years as artist and studio assistant, an art studio tradition that will be an integral part of the teaching environment of this workshop. Pomara will be helping Surls produce work during the workshop, while also make his own. MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Pomara and Surls will be working with forming, welding, fabrication in bronze, stainless steel, and wood.
