furniture design
& woodworking
furniture/wood skill levels:
Open to all - Students of any skill and knowledge level.
The furniture design and woodworking program at
Anderson Ranch is deeply rooted in the world of studio
furniture and has evolved by pushing the boundaries
of woodworking, mixing old and new techniques and
incorporating
alternative
materials.
Summer
2015
offers an inspiring range of workshops for all levels, from
basic fundamentals for beginners, to upholstery, joinery,
woodbending, veneers, finishing and advanced techniques.
Several workshops mix traditional processes with new CNC
technology; some explore wood and steel. Exceptional guest
faculty instruct and encourage a high level of craft in a safe,
supportive environment.
The Maloof Wood Barn, original to Anderson Ranch, has been
extensively renovated to house a machine room with topnotch equipment, a CNC Router room, bench room, design
studio and a turning studio. A dust collection system provides
a clean working environment. Students share European-style
workbenches and tool storage. Most days, the front garage
door is rolled up, providing easy access to an awning-covered
outdoor workspace.
The wood crew invites you to experience a furniture design
and woodworking workshop this summer. Arrive without
preconceived notions of what you might create. Allow yourself to
be inspired by the natural environment and Ranch atmosphere.
Share the energy of fellow makers, and dive deeply into the
research and design of your own practice.
