Teams worked diligently to transform 8’ x 8’ x 8’ snow blocks into creative sculptures during a 48-hour period. Four teams competed in the event that took place January 10 - 12, including Design and Loathing in Aspen, Team Snow Bunny, Hot Doggers, and the Frozen Chozen – Anderson Ranch’s team, who placed first. Not wanting to be left out of all of the sculpting fun, six middle school teams from throughout the Valley also participated in Wintersculpt during their own “Kidsculpt” competition. While the kids’ 4’ x 4’ x 4’ blocks were smaller than the adult teams’, their final snow sculptures were equally imaginative and fun! Wintersculpt and Kidsculpt were made possible in 2013 thanks to the generous support of Claudia Potamkin, Starbucks and the Thrift Store of Aspen. YOUNG ARTIST SCHOLARSHIPS In the summer of 2013, the Neuman Family Foundation generously funded scholarships for four junior/senior level students from the Chicago School of the Arts to attend an adult workshop during the third week of June. The scholarship provided a full meal plan, housing, tuition and supply costs for each student. Anderson Ranch also provided tuition scholarships to three junior/senior level students from the Denver School of the Arts in the summer of 2013. FOURTH OF JULY PARADE Nothing captures the patriotic spirit of a small American town like the Fourth of July parade in Aspen, and Anderson Ranch was proud to participate in the 2013 parade with children from the Parade Float Extravaganza Summer art class. Students ages seven years and up spent a fun-filled week creating the Yellow Submarine-themed float, and beamed with excitement and pride as they marched alongside the float during the parade.
