You know those people in your life that can always find a way to get you do things you otherwise
wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) do? That’s my friend Therese. We became friends as she and her other
friend Carolyn took a trip with us every year and back in 2010 we ended up on the same trip in Italy
and discovered that we had the same sense of irreverent humor, loved drinking wine and had a total
blast riding together. We became thick as thieves.
So when she and Carolyn were looking for a new adventure, she insisted that I was to go along. We
discussed several options that would be fun for both of them (Therese LOVES faster paced rides
and Carolyn not so much. Therese can sleep on a mat on the ground, Carolyn prefers the more
creature comforts (I’m with Carolyn on that, to be sure!). Therese is lactose intolerant, Carolyn
and I love to tempt her with all sorts of wonderful cheese and chocolate – you get the idea). What
we settled on was a ride in Spain on Andalusians and Andalusian crosses that is superlative – in
every way.
Except I had just taken this ride the year prior and needed to visit some of our other facilities
this particular year, for quality control purposes. Additionally Therese is a school teacher,
so she can only travel in the summer – which is our busiest time as we have LOADS of folks
traveling then, so it’s not a good time to be out of the office. So I explained this to Therese
and said we’d have to plan something for the following year.
Therese teaches third graders and as such, she’s used to not taking no for an answer and to
explaining things simply. She sai
