Does speed matter?
The short answer is no. Speed does not matter. If you hunt or shoot target, shot placement and form are the most critical factors that will determine a positive outcome. People in the 90’s hunted animals with bows that could only launch arrows at 200fps, and they brought down many an animal. There is no need to go for the fastest bow. Get the bow that FEELS RIGHT for you, regardless of its speed. I have yet to have a buck indicate to me that they were shot with a fast of slow bow…
brand...
Is brand X really better than brand Y?
Today’s bows are all very good. Their quality and craftsmanship is second to none, and they are built to the most stringent requirements. There really is no bad bow on the market. It all comes down to personal preference.
There is an old motorcycle adage that “you don’t choose a motorcycle, the motorcycle chooses you”. The same can be said for bows. Go and shoot a lot of bows at different dealers, and then decide which bow FEELS RIGHT for you. If it feels right, you will feel good shooting it, and you will have good shots coming from it. Good shots results in good placement, which means the meat is on the table…
In conclusion, if you decide to buy a bow, make sure that you at least know what your draw length is and if you can shoot a certain poundage. Shoot a couple of bows and choose the one that feels right, regardless of speed etc. Remember, the bow chooses you….Happy arrows and happy hunting!
