The table above shows generally accepted guidelines but arrow set up remains personal to the archer.
The purposes of the arrow set ups for each discipline are a little different:
Hunting: Accuracy, quietness and penetration.
3D: Accuracy, speed (distance judging)
Target: Accuracy, overcoming wind and forgiveness to minor mistakes.
Indoor: Accuracy, superior arrow flight
General: Accuracy and mediocre combination of purposes.
Above all accuracy is king and how the arrow is set up will determine to what degree the accuracy will be achieved. Arrow set up is but just one aspect of shooting well. This coupled together with a well-tuned bow, superior form and a lot of practice goes a long way to achieving this consistently. Don’t be scared to try new set ups and experiment to find what will work best for you and your set up.
