‘Ananta’ stands for ‘infinite’ in Sanskrit. This word can be used to describe
many things, for example, the Universe. Years of imbibing theorems and
equations have made us indifferent towards astronomy. The stars have lost their
charm as we study late at night to finish assignments. The ‘ananta’ universe is
outside your window, waiting to be explored. In this scenario Star Gazers
S.P.I.T, an astronomy club, has taken up the challenge of popularising
astronomy. The club intends to infuse curiosity in the minds of aspiring
engineers.
You must have seen many magazines on astronomy. Sadly, most of them are
too expensive or cater to audiences living in a specific country. Keeping these
hindrances in mind, we have created an Indianised astronomy magazine. This
magazine will further boost Star Gazers’ campaign to spread astronomy.
Star Gazers is an astronomy club at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology. It was
created in August 2013 to promote astronomy. The club has organised several events
which have been attended in great numbers, both by students and faculty members.
The current team of Star Gazers now hopes to expand this club to other engineering
colleges this year. You can know more about Star Gazers by scanning the QR Code on
the cover page.
The entire team of ANANTA and Star Gazers S.P.I.T would like to thank Dr Prachi
Gharpure for her encouragement and moral support. We would also like to thank Dr.
Y S Rao for supporting our club and Prof Anand Mane of FETS for his guidance. Prof
Nazahat Balur was our mentor for the year 2013-2014 and we place our gratitude on
record for her assistance. We would like to especially thank Dr. Madhavi Gokhale for
her relentless efforts to make ANANTA a success.
