They turned their backs while rejoicing, She cried and no one was near, Too caught up in their prayers and their singing, To soothe a young child’s fear. As soon as she could, she left them. As soon as she could, she ran. Off to the pavement and city lights, With no prospects, no wealth, and no plan. She sat in a pew one cold morning, The man told her, “love never diesif you love without purpose or warning, you are no better in the Lord’s eyes.” This man was neither priest nor saint, but a coward in a lousy disguise.
