The Flooded Ascension
Andrew Mureson
The scene is idyllic, peaceful at port
But the smooth waters churn, a storm, ground shakes
All we can do is batten down the fort
And hope we aren’t caught in its mighty wake
A hurricane rages, a force of death
A calamity unmatched in our time
We hope were not far-gone, with bated breath
After god’s wrath quells and the waters chime
But the storm is not without certain cause
Paving, rebuilding stronger than before
If we stop time, reflect and simply pause
There’s needed construction down to the core
A dark typhoon churns, its evil vortex roars
But we stand ready, for we will endure
