Reliable connections guarantee years of outdoor operation
Knowledge down to the last detail : Oetjens outlines the special features of LEDs

“ In the future , every one of our lights should be network-capable and therefore smart . Without exception !”

Peter Oetjens , Head of Electromechanical Development at the WE-EF lighting company
have network access . But we are also thinking ahead on the topic of light masts , and see close links here to electromobility , for charging e-bikes , or as a means of communication , for example equipped with SOS functions . Why shouldn ’ t drones also be able to land here , or voice communication with a medical first aider be possible ? Communication between road users and lights is also an interesting angle for us .”
Prospects in smart lighting Oetjens is certain that WE-EF also has to deal with new added value , no longer just having the hardware under control . However ,“ We are full of new ideas and products . Smart lighting is a fascinating vision that has already begun .“ ( lo ) •
Light emitting diodes
Since the 1970s , light-emitting diodes ( LEDs ) have been on a triumphant technological march . At the outset , the semiconductor components were mainly used in simple , colored signal or status displays due to their electrical properties . In the meantime , these bright points are used in almost all areas of life , from flashlights , architectural and street lighting , to furniture , TV sets , and car headlights . Compared to conventional light sources and energy-saving lamps , LEDs are more compact , consume less electricity , and can be operated for much longer . Dimming and frequent switching on and off processes can be tolerated by LEDs without complaint . The advantage of semiconductor components is also a technical challenge for the manufacturer : In order to shine with a defined luminous intensity , LEDs are operated via a constant current source or a ballast . So-called LED drivers ensure a constant input power without current peaks and thus ultimately guarantee the longevity of the LEDs . we-ef . com
