Cover story Lovers Rock was a powerful Black British Reggae Soul genre that thrived in the 80’s, in a way that has not been repeated—Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album has come closest. Sade, undoubtedly, paved the way for Floetry. LG: Ok let’s talk more about your new album, Rise of The Phoenix Mermaid. I have to say that so far, my favorite track on the album is “Try Something New (I Do)” however, I really like the lead single, “Feel Good” as well. I think that the music video to the song beautifully displays real love between two people who are clearly enamored with each other. Did anyone in particular influence this song? (Laughs) Floacist: (Laughs). Oh boy! I was asked this question similarly before, and so I will answer it this way—the song isn’t necessarily about ownership of another like, “you’re my man...I’m your woman” kind of thing. I wanted to show love in a more spiritual sense between two people. I wanted to promote a vibration and an energy that I know is achievable. The concept of the song is about when something feels good, because I see so many songs and the visuals that are put out there that are supposed to be about love, yet you see people fighting and arguing, etc. So with this song, “Feel Good”, I wanted to put a visual out there that showed how amazing connecting feels. Like how great it feels to radiate energy onto each other, to rejuevate each other and lift each other up. So, it was that aspect of love in which I wanted to capture and share with this song.
