233 . SET OF 13 CHINESE EXPORT ROCKEFELLER PATTERN DISHES , circa 1805 , comprising 2 small platters bearing Arms of Seton of Abercorn . Length 10 ¾ in . 11 Dinner Plates Diameter 9 ¾ in . Each piece enameled in Mandarin palette with a different vignette of figures at various pursuits ; the dinner plates with sepia diaper pattern inner border interrupted by bird and flower reserves alternate with small iron-red quatrefoil landscapes and within outer borders of richly gilt scroll work incorporating further iron-red landscapes alternate with sepia riverscapes . The two small platters lack the inner border and feature Arms of Seton of Abercorn , vignettes of birds in wooded settings and sepia riverscapes reserved from the gilt scroll work ground . Condition : Varying states of wear to enamels and gilding ; one plate cracked and glued ; 3 with hairline cracks . Note : What we now call Rockefeller porcelain probably comprised just 3 or 4 very large dinner services made at slightly varying dates early in the 19 th Century . Two services are known to have descended in wealthy Scottish trading families , and it is likely the others were also made for well-to-do Scots . 1,500 / 2,000
