The desk is of diminutive size in the Federal style , probably for the American market . Constructed in oriental woods , the cylinder retracts when one pulls on the writing surface rings , exposing a tilting writing surface , hinged central door flanked by 2 pigeon holes and 7 stepdown drawers with silver knobs , above a single drawer over 2 small drawers flanking a kneehole on square legs .
