THE WOUNDED WARRIOR EXPERIENCE Each year since 2010, the American Veterans Center has produced The Wounded Warrior Experience, a Veterans Day television special spotlighting
the inspiring stories of resilience and recovery among wounded service members from the front lines today.
Hosted by Jennifer Griffin of Fox News Channel, The Wounded Warrior Experience calls attention to important issues facing wounded and injured veterans, and innovations helping to care for those who have sacrificed in service to America.
ORAL HISTORY PRESERVATION
A hallmark of our preservation efforts is the collection of oral histories from American veterans- each of which are recorded for use in future documentary projects and donated to the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
Among the many oral histories collected this year were interviews with James Leavelle( left), the Pearl Harbor veteran who years later interrogated Lee Harvey Oswald following the Kennedy assassination.
Also interviewed was George Mendonsa( right), the“ sailor” in the legendary“ VJ Day in Times Square” kiss photo.
WORLD WAR II VETERANS COMMITTEE WORLD WAR II HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The World War II Veterans Committee has continued distribution of its World War II High School Curriculum nationwide. The curriculum is accessible to thousands of teachers and students, and offers a full week’ s worth of material, providing an in-depth study of the importance of World War II in history.
ANDREW J. GOODPASTER PRIZE
The American Veterans Center’ s annual Andrew J. Goodpaster Prize & Lecture recognizes outstanding work by“ soldier-scholars” in the mold of the late General Andrew Goodpaster( above), a highly decorated soldier in WWII and later NATO commander.
The 2015 recipient of the Goodpaster Prize was famed author & commentator Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, who spoke on leadership in the Civil War.
