AVC HOLDS ITS 17TH ANNUAL VETERANS
CONFERENCE & HONORS IN WASHINGTON
Last Veterans Day weekend, from November 6-8, 2014,
the American Veterans Center brought together many
of our military’s most distinguished veterans for its 17th
Annual Veterans Conference & Honors.
What began in 1998 with a small gathering of World
War II veterans and local high school students has now
grown into one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious
gatherings of heroes, sharing their lessons and experiences
with hundreds of students from each of our nation’s
military service academies and
several dozen ROTC programs.
Held at the U.S. Navy
Memorial in Washington, DC,
the event featured two full
days of panels and discussions,
featuring American heroes from
World War II to the present day.
Veterans participating included
the legendary Tuskegee Airmen
and Doolittle Raiders from
World War II, veterans of
D-Day, Iwo Jima, and the Battle
of the Bulge, Medal of Honor
recipients from Vietnam and
Afghanistan, and young service
members recently wounded
while serving on the front lines.
Delivering keynote remarks were General P.X. Kelley,
former Commandant of the United States Marine Corps,
who led the effort to build the National World War II
Memorial, as well as American Veterans Center Honorary
Chairman General Richard B. Myers, 15th Chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
