opportunity to go out there and pitch
with the thought that when I was
relieved or finished the ball game,
I could take a shower, and put my
civilian clothes on. We didn’t take a
shower or get a change of clothes for
three months at a time when we were
overseas in combat.
All the little entities you appreciate
as civilians, you’re denied during that
time of conflict. I think it’s a lesson
for everybody that we take the good
things in life for granted. That applies
to us as civilians. I don’t care how hard
things are, it’s not as tough as living
like an animal during a war.
I’m forever grateful that I played
baseball for a living. I am forever
grateful that my teammates helped me
win the ballgames that I did.
