We, the student editors, took special consideration in thinking about the cover for our student-produced magazine. Throughout its entire production, we considered many ideas that would eventually show the overall message of the magazine— The Fight for Power & the Pursuit of Equity— on the cover. After a series of trials and eliminations, we decided on this cover. Below, we would like to share our thinking on the meaning of the images.
On this cover, the student model is embracing the power, equity, freedom, justice and so much more that the American flag promises, while the hands of injustice, discrimination, poverty, and unfairness attempt to pull him down. Yet, even with this obstacle, he stands strong with determination and commitment. Likewise, many Americans are constantly face these “hands,” but nevertheless, they too stand determined. This struggle is demonstrated to the readers through the articles and images that fill the magazine. Our articles are about issues that we are currently facing, have faced, and will face. Deciding on a cover that would do this magazine justice took some serious brainwork and creativity from our editors. We hope you, the reader, have enjoyed learning about the cover and hope you will enjoy this student- produced magazine.
