September 2016 Edition Future USS Detroit Delivered to US Navy The future USS Detroit, the fourth Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship delivered to the U.S. Navy, underway during Acceptance Trials on July 13, 2016. The future USS Detroit will be commissioned in Detroit on Oct. 22, 2016. The Lockheed Martin-led industry team delivered the nation’s seventh Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), the future USS Detroit, to the U.S. Navy on Aug. 12. The future USS Detroit is the fourth Freedom-variant LCS delivered to the U.S. Navy by Lockheed Martin and is scheduled to be commissioned in Detroit on Oct. 22. (The future littoral combat ship USS Detroit (LCS 7) successfully concluded its acceptance trial July 15. The next milestone for Detroit is its delivery to the U.S. Navy. During trials, the ship successfully performed launch and recovery operations of the 11-meter rigid-hull inflatable boat, conducted surface and air self-defense detect-to-engage exercises, and demonstrated the ship’s maneuverability.
