For the last eight NHRA races in a row, Pro
Stock driver Shane Gray has wheeled his
Valvoline/Nova Services Chevrolet Camaro to
a top-half qualifying berth, signifying he has
a racecar fully capable of winning the race.
But so far victory has remained just beyond
his grasp, a situation he’d like to correct at
this weekend’s Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
“We’ve had our chances, and I think we’re
showing now, at times, that we can run up
front and take on anybody,” Gray said, “but
we haven’t been able to punch one through
yet. That just proves how tough it is at the
top level of the sport. Wins and losses are
measure in thousandths of a second and you
have to be perfect.
