AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER GAZETTE FRONT COVER CONTEST WINNER! DZUMA KNL'S "CH" SERENA" Owned by Daria Tomys/Dzuma Kennels This is a very difficult time for all of us. If you, or a loved one, has been affected by Covid-19, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. With Mother’s Day approaching, I have been thinking about someone VERY special. Some of you know her as Mrs. Ralph Greenwood, others know her as Renee, and those close to her call her Nanny. But very few of us get to call her Mom. You see, she claimed me - several years ago - as the youngest of her (now nine) children. I’ve been blessed by the stories she shares of her life with Ralph; how they first met one another, when and how they got married, and about him telling her that he wanted “a yard full of dogs and a yard full of kids”, and she proudly says she made that happen for him. Another thing she does - on a daily basis, and at 87 years old - is work side- by-side with us in the ADBA office. This was their dream, Ralph & Renee, and she makes sure that she stays true to the promise she made her husband. I am blessed, not only to work with but to be part of such a devoted family; not only devoted to the APBT, but to each other. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. I will continue your dream... ~ Love, Heather DeVito (Greenwood) INSIDE FEATURES A Look at Prepotent Brood Stock in ADBA History - Part IV .............................................................. pg. 05 Can My Day Get Any Worse .............................................................................................................. pg. 11 A Salty Dog ........................................................................................................................................ pg. 12 Prong Collars, Choke Chains and Kindergarten Rules ...................................................................... pg. 17 The Hard Life and Times of Blake Gaines ......................................................................................... pg. 18 May 2020 Contest Cover Runners Up ............................................................................................... pg. 22 ADBA’s First Virtual World Fun Show ................................................................................................ pg. 26 The Route 66 of Dog Show Life ........................................................................................................ pg. 41 It’s Complicated ................................................................................................................................ pg. 46 You’re Not a Bad Owner if You Can’t Feed Raw ............................................................................... pg. 49 Point Standings .................................................................................................................................. pg. 52 Junior Handler ................................................................................................................................... pg. 54 Letter to the Editor ............................................................................................................................. pg. 56 Show Calendar .................................................................................................................................. pg. 57 Show News ....................................................................................................................................... pg. 58 Ch/Ace/TD Spotlight .......................................................................................................................... pg. 60 Rankings ........................................................................................................................................... pg. 63 In Memory of Baker Davis ................................................................................................................. pg. 65 Historical ............................................................................................................................................ pg. 66 3
