Interview with
Mr. Glenn Stubblefield
Owner of
Stubblefield’s “Centerman”
Brother to Buddy
Stubblefield’s “Ch” Buddy”
Q: Mr. Stubblefield, who got you started into the Pit Bull game?
A: Back in 1966, a very serious local dogman named Jim Wesley introduced me
to the dogs.
Glenn Stubblefield and Topper
A Kingfish Dog
Q: Back then, who were some of the dog men you dealt with in your part of
the country?
A: Walt Komosinski, Pete Sparks, Frank Bunce, Mr. Charles Parrish, Gene Carr
– aka Nightmare, Tony Wolf owner of “Ch” Saloon”, Bobby Love, Jim Wesley,
Harry Smale, Toby Gardnier, and Adams brothers, Dave and Roger, men who
owned Adam & Crutchfield’s “Ch” Art”, Adams’ “Ch” Zebo”, Adams’ “Candy”
and Adams’ “Kingfish”.
Q: What were some on the bloodlines you liked?
A: Really I only wanted the Kingfish line of dogs.
Q: Why Kingfish dogs?
A: Well most of them were well balanced I mean nice body, structure, very smart,
real athletic. Now I knew the Colby line, the Carver dogs were well known, but I
had great success with the Kingfish dogs.
Stubblefield’s “Little David”
Brother to Buddy
Q: Can you tell us about “Ch” Buddy”?
A: I got him from Mr. Charles Parrish when he was about 18 months of age. He
was nice around people, a mellow style dog and he didn’t like the mill. Lots of
road work and walking was best for him. We kept each other in shape.
Q: What dogs did “Ch“Buddy” produce?
A: He sired Patton’s “Ch” Kate”. He was the driving force behind the good
dogs of Ed Reid that were sent to England. His litter mate sister was Adams’
“Ch” Candy” and she was the dam of the Adam’s “Ch” Mike” and Favre’s
“Luke”. In his book Stratton gave another “Ch” Candy” credit for being the dam.
Let me say “CH” Buddy” would have been a better known stud, but he was stolen
and never recovered.
Stubblefield’s “Rocketman”
Son of Buddy’s
Q: In closing, what is your advice to men and women of today?
A: Always put the dogs first; in housing, feeding and over all care and visit your
vet from time to time.

Editor: Renee Greenwood remembered after reading this interview that Ralph
was contacted at the ADBA office when Buddy was stolen. He was asked to
watch for brindle males that were being registered for the first time about
Buddy’s age, in an attempt to find out who Buddy went to, but to no avail.
