Twin Club MC Custom Bike Show Norrtällje, Sweden, June 1st 2013 AFTER the atrocious weather of last year hit bike entry numbers and attendance, normal service was resumed for the 39th annual Custom Bike Show held in Norrtällje’s Societetsparken, with 220 bikes entered in 7 classes and almost 8,000 visitors from around Europe. This year was the ninth time that Custom Bike Show has been affiliated to the AMD World Championship. Three separate judging systems are used to determine the winners, with a jury of industry professionals deciding on three World Championship affiliate prizes and Best in Show, with the competitors deciding the class prizes, and a Public Choice winner being awarded a RevTech engine courtesy of Custom Chrome Europe. Finland has traditionally provided a large number of winners over the years, and 2013 was no exception as Alpo Varis of Aliens MC took the Best in Show prize and also won the Harley-Davidson Chopper class with his superb example of Scandinavian chopper styling. Another Finn, Anssi Kantonen, was runner-up with “Spirit of Douglas”, a hand-crafted Old School racer highlighted by his innovative use of a BMW Boxer engine. In third place, and fresh from his 13th place finish in Alpo Varis of Aliens MC, Finland, won Best in Show and an invitation to the 2014 World Championship this year’s World Championship, was Carlos Stenson’s steampunk-themed “Moonshine Trickster”, based around a 1923 boat engine. Having driven 7 hours overnight to compete after finally getting the bike running, Carlos also picked up the Public Choice award and was runner-up in the Custom class.
