Iconic Saddlemen RoadSofa Touring Seats With Proprietary ' SaddleGel '
The Saddlemen RoadSofa is now considered to be the touring seat standard, by which all others are judged, but that wasn ' t always the case. The RoadSofa has come a long way to earn this reputation. Saddlemen began life focused mostly on touring seats for Honda GoldWings. Back in the 1980s and ' 90s, the GoldWing had a huge following, and there was a big, dedicated aftermarket. GoldWing touring rallies were held all over the world, and riders tricked out their ' Wings with chrome, lights, and comfort accessories. It was in this world that the RoadSofa was born. Saddlemen experimented, in search of the perfect long-distance riding seat. Many shapes and
materials were considered and tested. Seating pressure mapping devices were brought in, to provide scientific data to back up what they felt was working. They tried different types of seat foam, adjusting the density, and adding innovative materials like polymer gel, the first examples of which came from the medical industry. Hospitals used a type of gel to prevent bed sores in long term patients, and this concept sparked a revolution in motorcycle seat technology. After many years and millions of miles of riding and testing, Saddlemen eventually came up with a proprietary SaddleGel formula that is now found in every Saddlemen RoadSofa, Step-Up and other seats. Eventually, as Harley-Davidson touring bikes grew in popularity, the RoadSofa concept was adapted to these American motorcycles. It is crafted specifically for riders that love to lay down hundreds of kilometers of open road in a day, and Harley ' s touring bikes excel at this. The split-cushion lumbar area is designed to eliminate the hammocking effect of most traditional seats, separating the rider ' s seating surface from the lumbar area. The rider ' s seating area is intended to support the rider ' s rear and thighs, while narrowing at the front to aid in getting one ' s legs to the ground. Saddlemen RoadSofa seats are available with or without a removable, adjustable rider ' s backrest, and there are Extended Reach options for taller riders. Optional rider and passenger seat heaters make colder rides more enjoyable. Of course, matching accessories like Tour-Pak pads and saddlebag lid covers complete the style.
The Saddlehyde cover material feels like glove leather, but is actually superior to leather, especially for durability and comfort. It has just the right amount of stretch built into it, to allow your body to make use of the benefits of the GelCore that ' s inside every seat. Although the RoadSofa is the most widely acclaimed touring seat on the market, the crew at Saddlemen are not content, and are continually looking into ways to make the RoadSofa better, through new technologies or updated modern styling.
