NEWSBRIEFS The AMA Amateur Athlete of the Year Award, which recognizes the top amateur competitors in AMA amateur national championship competition each year, has been renamed in honor of Dan Bromley, who won the award in 2011 before going pro in AMA Grand National Championship competition. Bromley, who earned the American Flat Track 2018 Singles and 2025 Adventure Trackers championships as a professional racer, died on Saturday, June 27, in Lima, Ohio, in a racing incident.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has appointed AMA Washington D. C. Representative Zach Farmer to the Motorcyclist Advisory Council( MAC) as a representative member. The role will see Farmer working with the U. S. Department of Transportation( DOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration( NHTSA) to create a safer environment for motorcyclists. Farmer will bring recognized expertise regarding motorcyclist safety in a variety of areas, including the integration of emerging transportation technologies and roadway designs.
Drag Specialties has appointed Matthew Maldonado to the Southeast Region sales team roster covering the NC area. Matthew ' s experience includes service advising in CA and fixed-operations management at H-D Louisville where he also organized an entry level drag racing series. His riding expertise includes racing in the BRL on his 2024 CVO ST and occasional drag racing on his 2006 Dyna Street Bob.
In May 2026, South Carolina became the fourth state to sign Right to Race legislation into law after Gov. Henry McMaster( R) signed H. 4706. This further signals the growing momentum behind Right to Race bills. The AMA has actively supported this legislation alongside the Specialty Equipment Market Association( SEMA) and the Performance Racing Industry( PRI), lending its voice in support of efforts to protect pre-existing racetracks from nuisance claims across the country.
