Ideas and multiculturalism could be moral and ethical beliefs of different peoples, this could vary from religion to pastimes and games. In other words, over time American literature has been influenced by various ethnicities; significantly by two minorities, African-Americans and Women. Over time minorities have found a voice and revolutionized, influencing literature by writing about the daily life they lived. For example slave narratives and folk songs are two major contributions from African Americans to literature that give insight from the viewpoint of slaves themselves. From a "law as literature" perspective, the two are intertwined. That being said, laws are a big part of defining literature. Two major movements that show the infiltration of minorities in laws, therefore literature, would be the Women's Rights Movement which called for the social and legal equality of women, as well as the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the sixties which demanded an end to racial segregation and discrimination. Considering the Constitution a literary work, minorties influenced amendments such as the 13th and 19th.
"Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life." -Fernando Pessoa
