T
he Kitchen opened September 2010 with the
goal of providing Oxnard
with good burgers and
craft beer, especially the
ones that are hard to find without
having to go to a chain restaurant.
Beer connoisseurs are more than
welcome and have been flocking from
far away. There is also a 150-seat
banquet room that attracts a different
clientele. It is a multi-purpose room
used by different groups including
meetings, weddings, and even as a
dinner theater.
They have a bakery area that bakes
their own bread and desserts and are
planning on having fresh baked goods
available daily. They also carry products from local producers in the area
including Salsa Festival Salsa. Beer
brewing classes and brewing kits are
also available for people that want to
learn the art of brewing.
The Kitchen was featured on Diners,
Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri a
little over a year after it opened with
the episode first airing in January of
2012. Cathie can usually tell when the
episode just re-aired because everyone orders the lamb burger that was
featured on the show.
From the Food Network:
“At this multitasking diner,
owner Cathie Moreno is cooking,
baking and brewing. Guy loved the
hint of mint from the lamb burger
paired with an acidic red pepper relish
inside a fresh homemade bun.
Locals recommend ordering the
meatloaf sandwich and enjoying a nice
cold beer with it.”
ALEXANDER’S
Cathie entered the catering business
right out of college as a catering assistant. After several years of working
for someone else, and in the process
gaining valuable experience, she decided she had to be her own boss. She
then went into business as a personal
chef. This involved going to the client’s
house one day and preparing enough
food for an entire week. So all they
had to do was heat it up when they
were ready for it. Dietary limitations
and preferences were always a consideration. Some Real Estate agents
would give the gift of a personal chef
for a week at
the close of
escrow. She
still has several
clients from
that business.
