This war is REALLY crazy and the Battle of Gettysburg shows that. The South got really bold in this one but it backfired on them.
The Battle of Gettysburg took place over three days. On the first day the armies were trying to get their stuff together. The Confederates outnumbered the Union the first day and made the Union soldiers retreat to the Southside. General Robert E. Lee wanted his men to continue the attack and finish off the Union troops. However, his men said forget him and didn't do it. This became a big gelp for the Union, they now had the opportunity to dig in and set up their defenses.
On the second day, both armies were at full force. They both were turnt and ready for battle. The Union had around 94,000 soldiers and the Confederates had around 72,000. Lee attacked and there was crazy fighting ALL day! Both sides took major L's but the Union Army held ground.
The third day, General Lee decided to buck up and make an all or nothing attack. He felt if he could win this battle, the South would win the war. He sent General Pickett, with 12,500 men, on a direct charge at the heart of the Union Army. Everyone of these men were hype and felt that the war was about to be won right then. Boy were they wrong! LOL Pickett's men were defeated with over half of them injured or killed. They had no chance against the superior Union Army. The Confederate Army retreated.
So far, this has been THE deadliest battle in the ENTIRE war. There were around 46,000 casualties including nearly 8,000 deaths. WOW!

““True patriotism sometimes requires of men to act exactly contrary, at one period, to that which it does at another, and the motive which impels them the desire to do right is precisely the same.” -Robert E. Lee
