American Curriculum Accreditation in the UAE A ccreditation is both a status and a process. As a status, accreditation provides public notification that an institution or program meets the standards of quality set forth by an accrediting agency. As a process, accreditation reflects the fact that in achieving recognition by the accrediting agency, the institution or program is committed to self-study and external review by one’s peers in seeking not only to meet standards, but to continuously seek ways to enhance the quality of education and training provided. There are a variety of organizations based in the US that accredit American Curriculum schools globally. In the UAE, each emirate has a different educational regulatory authority and requires its American schools to adhere to a specific USbased accreditation authority. The UAE emirate educational regulatory authorities are as follows: • Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) • Dubai: Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) • Sharjah: Sharjah Educational Zone • Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah Educational Zone • Umm Al Quwain: Umm Al Quwain Educational Zone • Ajman: Ajman Educational Zone • Fujairah: Fujairah Educational Zone The UAE educational authorities primarily rely on the three following American Curriculum educational agencies to accredit UAE American Curriculum schools: 14 | American Education in the UAE ‫اعتماد المنهج األمريكي‬ ‫في اإلمارات العربية‬ ‫المتحدة‬ ‫ا‬ ‫العتماد حالة وكذلك عملية. كحالة، يوفر االعتماد إعالنً ا عاما بأن‬ ّ ٌ ٍ ً ‫مؤسسة ما أو برنامج ما يلبي معايير الجودة المنصوص عليها‬ ‫من جانب جهة االعتماد. وكعملية، يعكس االعتماد حقيقة أن‬ ٍ ‫المؤسسة أو البرنامج خالل تحقيقه لالعتراف من جانب جهة‬ ‫االعتماد، يلتزم بالدراسة الذاتية والمراجعة الخارجية من قبل نظرائه‬ ِ ‫بهدف ال يقتصر فقط على تلبية المعايير وإنما بالسعي الحثيث إليجاد‬ .‫طرق لتعزيز جودة التعليم والتدريب المقدمة‬ ّ ُ ‫هنالك مجموعة متنوعة من المؤسسات في الواليات المتحدة تمنح‬ ‫االعتماد للمنهج األمريكي عالميا. في اإلمارات العربية المتحدة في‬ ً ‫كل إمارة توجد هيئة تعليمية تنظيمية مختلفة وتُ لزم كل إمارة المدارس‬ ٍ ‫األمريكية أن تلتزم بهيئة اعتماد معينة مقرها الواليات المتحدة. وفيما‬ ‫يلي الهيئات التنظيمية التعليمية في كل إمارة من اإلمارات العربية‬ :‫المتحدة‬ )ADEC( ‫• أبوظبي: مجلس أبوظبي للتعليم‬ )KHDA( ‫• دبي: هيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية‬ ‫• الشارقة: منطقة الشارقة التعليمية‬ ‫• رأس الخيمة: منطقة رأس الخيمة التعليمية‬ ‫• أم القيوين: منطقة أم القيوين التعليمية‬ ‫• عجمان: منطقة عجمان التعليمية‬ ‫• الفجيرة: منطقة الفجيرة التعليمية‬ ‫تعتمد الهيئات التعليمية في اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ثالثة وكاالت‬ ‫تعليمية للمنهج األمريكي العتماد مدارس المنهج األمريكي في‬ :‫اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وهي كما يلي‬
