FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear members ,
This issue is about something that each and every one of you are experts at — giving back . Our community is built on generosity , kindness , curiosity , and cohesion . We are part of a movement that values collaboration over competition and play over power .
Our organization was run exclusively by a volunteer working board for 12 years . Kevin O ’ Keefe founded this organization based on a fervent desire to share . Gil Favreau of Cirque du Soleil offered start-up money so that AYCO could have a phone line and a PO box in the 90s . The amazing Rick Davis , a founding and current board member , managed every single registration , membership , and query via his own heartfelt system of organization from 1998 through 2010 . Countless board members , organizers , and volunteers have brought us to this point .
This issue is dedicated to the dozens of individuals who are currently engaged in helping our organization to thrive . To the board members , event planners , magazine editors , coordinators , and volunteers who dedicate time and energy above and beyond to keep the gears of AYCO and ACE turning . To the coaches and parents who bring kids to our showcases and festivals , and to the local circus organizations who step in at a moment ' s notice to support last-minute needs like mats or rigging support . We value you and appreciate you — you are the very essence of the spirit of circus !
Giving back is a part of the daily lives of circus educators and organizers . You are constantly pushing the boundaries , advocating for youth , encouraging adults , and connecting your community . We hope that this issue will honor your giving nature and spark new ideas around volunteer support , social circus , staff engagement , and more .
It is truly a gift to be in the position of supporting a most generous community .
With gratitude ,
- Amy Cohen
