American Circus Educators Magazine Spring 2018 (Issue 1, Volume 12) | Page 2
ABOUT Dear Community,
Founded in 2014, the American
Circus Educators Association (ACE)
is a branch of the American Youth
Circus Organization (AYCO),
a non-profit organization that supports
the diversity of circus educators by
organizing festivals & conferences,
advocating for circus education, generating
and sharing resources and information, and
setting guidelines for safety in circus
education and practice. For information
about events, membership, or to get
involved, visit
americancircuseducators.org. This issue is full of extraordinary people sharing their wisdom
about something that is on many of our minds daily—the
relationship between circus education and the world of social
media and technology. We are graced with writing from top-notch
contributors who are bold and brave enough to share their stories,
opinions, and suggestions about how to maintain our ever growing
and changing sector and our relationship to technology and
social media. This issue is filled to the brim with some of the most
prominent and communicative online circus writers, thinkers, and
educators of our time.

With the ever-increasing online web of resources, it is soothing
to know that there are concerted efforts to elevate and develop
resources for circus educators within the virtual context. We are
living in a world where it is critical that our community rises to
the occasion to address the reality of the online world. Paired
with this, there is simply nothing better than actually being in the
room with one another. I encourage you to consider attending our
2018 American Circus Educators Conference in Decatur, GA. Four
days of in person gathering—keynotes, workshops, networking,
and building relationships that will last for the duration of your
professional life in circus education. Many pivotal connections
have been made at this event, and I can confidently say that the
benefits of attending will ripple for years to come.
It is an honor to be in community with all of you—both virtually via
the many innovations developing every day, and in real time when
we gather to share wisdom.
In the spirit of circus,
