FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Community,
This year our spring issue is dedicated to a theme that circus educators
know a LOT about - DIY.... do it yourself! The fabric of our community
has always been strengthened by a belief in the importance of sharing
information, helping one another, and relishing in the fact that we are
each other’s best assets and resources. Perhaps we are more of a DIO -
“do it ourselves” - community. It is incredibly powerful and rare to be a
part of something so cooperative in both theory and practice. I hope
the tips, tricks, and stories in this issue support you as you organize,
teach, manage, and manifest circus around the country.
Speaking of collaboration - last issue we said goodbye to Duncan Wall -
our editor for the past two years. Duncan showed deep passion for our
organization and we are grateful for his vision and dedication to our
magazine. I am pleased to welcome two fabulous women to our 2015
ACE Magazine team. Kim Campbell, our new editor, brings with her many
years of editorial experience, a passion for circus, and an exciting vision
for the future of our publication. Lucy Little is our new magazine
designer - she has taken on the design for our entire ACE identity
inspired by the work that Isometric Studio created. Looking through this
issue I am filled with excitement to see where her creativity will take our
magazine in the future.
Finally, I invite you to explore our new AYCO website at
americanyouthcircus.org. Our playful new site brings with it the
possibility for more national advocacy, promotion, and publicity for the
myriad of ways that circus education works for young people in the USA.
Plus it is a user-friendly platform that makes it easy for you to get
involved! Speaking of which, we have three major performance
opportunities for young artists this summer and the 2015 American Youth
Circus Festival in August. It’s going to be incredible - all the info is on our
new site and registration is open - can’t wait to see you there.
Enjoy!
Amy Cohen
Executive Director
