DAY 1 Fly to San Francisco
On arrival make your own way to your hotel . Later , meet your tour director and fellow travellers .
DAY 2 San Francisco
Kick things off with a half day city tour taking in Union Square , Fisherman ’ s Wharf and the view from the top of Twin Peaks . The afternoon is free to relax or explore independently . Perhaps hop on a cable car or , browse the eateries of Fisherman ’ s Wharf where you can also watch the sea lions frolic and laze . Gaze across the bay to Alcatraz Island or browse the shops around Union Square .
DAY 3 San Francisco
You have the choice of a further day of sightseeing under your own steam or joining an optional tour to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea ( at extra cost ). If you opt for the latter , you ’ ll travel along the Pacific Coast to the Monterey Bay Peninsula and in Monterey itself you can visit Cannery Row , made famous by the John Steinbeck novel or the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium ( included in optional package price ). Continue on the 17-Mile Drive , admiring the natural scenery and gorgeous homes and stroll around the charming community of Carmel-by-the-Sea , known for its art galleries and shops .
DAY 4 San Francisco / Yosemite National Park / Fresno
Set off for Yosemite National Park , known for its magnificent seasonal waterfalls , granite peaks and remarkable wildlife . Explore the park by coach and also have time on the valley floor to absorb the spectacular scenery and enjoy an included picnic .
DAY 5 Fresno / Las Vegas
Travel through the Mojave Desert on your way to Las Vegas which you reach late afternoon . Step out and start discover this dazzling “ Entertainment Capital of the World ” right away .
DAY 6 Las Vegas
This morning , stop at the iconic Las Vegas Welcome Sign to capture a photo memory of Las Vegas before heading off to the Grand Canyon . En route , admire the beauty of Lake Mead , the largest reservoir in the US formed by the Hoover Dam . At the Grand Canyon , there ’ s time to explore the views on your own and if you choose , join an optional helicopter trip over the canyon , or walk on the Skywalk platform ( both at extra cost ).
DAY 7 Las Vegas
The day is yours to choose how you spend it . Maybe do a little shopping at one of the fine Las Vegas outlets , lounge by the pool or join an optional tour to Death Valley National Park , the lowest ( below sea level ) and hottest region in the western hemisphere ( at extra cost ).
DAY 8 Las Vegas / Los Angeles
Travel from Las Vegas through Palm Springs , the winter playground for Hollywood royalty , with its lively downtown area and immaculately kept golf courses at the base of the rugged San Jacinto Mountains . This desert city was once the winter retreat of stars like Frank Sinatra , Jane Russell and Elvis Presley . Today , it is a flourishing resort town with great shops , restaurants and year round desert climate . Arrive Los Angeles late afternoon .
DAY 9 Los Angeles
This morning , look forward to a comprehensive city tour of Los Angeles including hip Santa Monica , glitzy Hollywood and glamorous Beverly Hills . You will be able to stop by the “ finish line ” of Historic Route 66 , see an iconic Californian lifeguard tower made famous by “ Baywatch ”, walk on the boulevard of stars and take a great photo of the famous Hollywood sign . The afternoon is free to explore more on your own or join an optional excursion to Universal Studios where you will learn all about how movies are made ( at extra cost ).
DAY 10 Los Angeles
Choose to continue discovering LA yourself or perhaps join an optional full day excursion to San Diego ( at extra cost ). The tour takes you south through San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente to San Diego , the second largest city in California . Here , there ’ s a city tour taking in the historic Old Town , the Gaslamp District , and the bayfront picturesque Seaport Village . For a different view of the city , you can join an optional bay cruise ( at extra cost ) before returning to Los Angeles in the late afternoon .
DAY 11 Los Angeles
This wonderful tour concludes as you make your way to the airport for your onward journey .
