It’ s the oldest permanent settlement on the river and still boasts many antebellum mansions with immaculately maintained gardens. Equally worthy of attention is the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444 mile scenic roadway that stretches all the way from Natchez to Nashville. If time doesn’ t allow you to explore in its entirety a short drive or a walk on a nature trail will provide a taste of the landscapes which inspired authors like William Faulkner and John Grisham.

Charming Tupelo is the birthplace and childhood home of Elvis Presley. Pose next to a life-size statue portraying him at age 13 and step inside the church where his love for Southern gospel music began.
State capital Jackson has a soulful beat and is noted for its architecture, has scores of unique museums, outdoor attractions, three historic cultural districts and holds hundreds of annual events and festivals.
Music fans can celebrate Blues musicians and heritage by following the many markers along the state’ s Mississippi Blues Trail, which extends from the Gulf Coast northwards. For history buffs, the Mississippi Freedom Trail commemorates the important role Mississippi played in African-American history and again has numerous markers dotted around the state.
