DAY 1 Fly to Nashville On arrival, collect your hire car and head to your hotel.
DAY 2 Nashville
Walkable neighbourhoods make it easy for you take in the iconic museums, great food and of course the music, from morning to night. Top attractions to consider include the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, the Johnny Cash Museum and the Grand Ole Opry.
DAY 3 Nashville / Chattanooga
Bid farewell to Nashville and head for Chattanooga. On the way you’ ll pass waterfalls, mountain outlooks and charming towns( 133 miles).
DAY 4 Chattanooga
We recommend a stroll along the revitalised RiverWalk, perhaps riding the Incline Railway up Lookout Mountain and of course, you must see the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo!
DAY 5 Chattanooga / Pigeon Forge
Another scenic drive today as you head north east towards the Great Smoky Mountains, the US’ most visited national park which covers 500,000 acres( 146 miles).
DAY 6 Pigeon Forge
This charming mountain town, provides easy access to a myriad of activities in the breathtaking Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Pigeon Forge is also home to the fun-filled Dollywood theme park, where you’ ll find rides, music and more.
DAY 7 Pigeon Forge / Asheville
Take in more of the wonderful natural scenery before you cross over into North Carolina for Asheville. If time allows on arrival, perhaps visit the Biltmore Estate, America’ s largest home and a living legacy of the opulent gilded age. Alternatively, lace up your hiking shoes and follow one of the picturesque trails, which suit all abilities( 89 miles).
DAY 8 Asheville / Charleston
Today’ s drive also offers many stopping off points to break your journey, including Laurel Park for the scenic Jump Off Rock, Hendersonville for lots of great shopping and restaurants or vibrant Greenville( 267 miles).
DAY 9 Charleston
This charming city offers a rich tapestry of history, culture and undeniable Southern charm. Follow cobblestone streets through centuries-old neighbourhoods and admire the pastel-coloured homes and majestic oak trees draped in Spanish moss.
DAY 10 Charleston / Hilton Head Island
Before you head off, you may wish to join a tour across to Fort Sumter, for the chance to stand where the American Civil War begin on 12 April 1861. Back on the road, your route will lead you inland before you cross the bridge over to Hilton Head Island( 98 miles).
DAY 11 Hilton Head Island
A top-ranked eco-conscious island renowned for its miles of Atlantic beaches, premier golf courses and Harbour Town Lighthouse. There’ s a wonderfully relaxed vibe, some delightful shops and restaurants, along with numerous activities including biking, kayaking and dolphin watching.
DAY 12 Hilton Head Island / Savannah
Explore more of this charming island before you drive onwards and into Georgia for Savannah, a delightful coastal city( 32 miles).
DAY 13 Savannah
Hailed as one of America’ s most beautiful cities, the walkable Historic District is a must-see as is Forsyth Park, River Street and the City Market.
DAY 14 Savannah / Atlanta
Today’ s drive takes you inland through Georgia. There’ s no shortage of places to stop and while away an hour or two, including Macon or the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins( 248 miles)
DAY 15 Atlanta
If you have time, be sure to spend time at the scenic Centennial Olympic Park, which is home to numerous fascinating museums and attractions. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the historic Martin Luther King Jr National Historical Park. Later, return your car at the airport where your tour ends with your onward journey.
