Timeless in terms of history, culture and food, Philadelphia is where the American Dream originated in 1776 when the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. See monumental historical sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House which is the birthplace of the American flag, numerous acclaimed museums, and the Eastern State Penitentiary where Al Capone was imprisoned.
Pittsburgh is a modern, ever-evolving city with an award-winning culinary scene, craft-beverage packed neighbourhoods and worldclass museums, including one dedicated to Andy Warhol. Add in miles and miles of riverfront trails, outdoor activities, a vibrant cultural district offering world-class productions, and fan-friendly sports events in iconic stadiums, and the only thing your itinerary will be lacking, is free time!
Famous for the tragic battle of July 1863 and the place where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Address, it’ s fair to say that history runs deep through the roots of Gettysburg. Learn more by joining an engaging battlefield tour or walk in soldiers’ footsteps at the Gettysburg National Military Park. Modern day treats include shops, restaurants and wineries.
Lancaster, in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, is home to the Amish, a religious group that shun modernity in favour of seclusion and simple living. Here, the horse and buggy remains a primary mode of transport and tours of the Amish Village offer an intimate glimpse into their day-to-day life. In contrast, Lancaster’ s downtown has it all from boutique shopping and fine dining to a plethora of art and theatres.
At nearby Hershey visit the“ Sweetest Place on Earth”- Hershey’ s Chocolate World as well as Hersheypark, which has over 70 attractions including roller coasters, family rides, water park fun and more.
The Pocono Mountains offer four seasons of endless outdoor fun amidst stunning natural surroundings of lakes and cloud-covered peaks. Choose from hiking, biking, canoeing, ziplining, skiing, snowboarding and more. Alternatively, take a scenic train tour, stretch out on a sandy lakeside beach, then unwind at a brew pub or dine in an elegant restaurant.
