EICMA/'Milan' Show Canceled for 2020 Following the news that INTERMOT (Cologne, Germany, October) had been canceled until its next due event in 2022, Confindustria ANCMA (the National Association of Manufacturers of Bicycles, Motorbikes and Accessories) that owns and operates EICMA at Milan in November each year has, as expected, confirmed cancellation of its show until November 2021. Paolo Magri, the President of Confindustria ANCMA and Managing Director of EICMA S.p.A., the company that organizes the show, is quoted as saying that "the decision has been taken with and for the whole sector. "The importance and international status of our exhibition means that it would be inappropriate to gamble on how the health situation linked to the COVID-19 emergency will evolve and, above all, to listen to our stakeholders and protect the whole of the twowheeler industry, its customers and the wider public." Milan and the state of Lombardy were 'ground zero' for the COVID-19 pandemic in northern Italy, and while much of Italian society, commerce and manufacturing is embarked on a slow and careful path to reopening, the risks of acting too optimistically, too soon, are obvious. It was only a matter of time before the decision to suspend the 78th iteration of a show that traces its origins back more than 100 years became official, especially once BMW and KTM/Husqvarna (big players in the German and Italian trade associations) had both announced (in early April) that they would not be exhibiting at either event. The absence of both the major shows in Europe (along with many other events) will leave a big hole in the industry's sales and marketing opportunities for a 2021 season that will be very important for the future of 2020 Lima Half-Mile Postponed Due to COVID-19 regulations in the areas surrounding Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, OH, the promoters of the Lima Half- Mile have had to postpone its doubleheader race dates scheduled for Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, 2020. Assuming the rebuilt season starts as planned, the rescheduled Lima Half-Mile (the original date was June 27) would have been the second weekend double header following the expected season opening Barber, FL. Volusia Half-Mile double header slated for July 17 and 18. AFT says it is working closely with the promoter, Allen County Fairgrounds and the local health officials "to help secure a date that will accommodate its current schedule and provide the best experience for its fans, competitors and staff." If Volusia fails to survive the spike in coronavirus infections being seen in Florida, and no the international motorcycle market. While new model registration statistics in Europe and the United States have weathered the initial peak of the global health emergency way better than might have been expected, it is already clear that it has taken its toll on new event is secured for the presently open August 28 and 29 double header dates planned to be staged in the Northeast, then, with the Sturgis Rally races at the Buffalo Chip and at Rapid City having been dropped from the revised AFT schedule, the 2020 season won't be able to start until September 5 and 6 at the earliest with the Springfield Mile I and II double header. That would likely leave the season reduced to just six product R&D (motorcycles as well as aftermarket parts and accessories). Dates for 2021 are 9th to 14th November at the Fiera Milano, Rho - west of the Milan city center and around 30 minutes from Malpensa airport. events, all of them double headers - Springfield, Illinois; Mechanicsburg, PA, Half-Mile; Dallas, Texas, Half-Mile (Devil's Bowl Speedway, Mesquite); the Atlanta Short Track; Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Daytona TT Season Finale during Biketoberfest (October 15 and 16) - assuming that escapes the Florida spike. www.americanflattrack.com Indian Partners with RSD for FTR 1200 Accessories Described as a "collaborative line-up of FTR 1200 parts that brings 'Super Hooligan' racing inspiration to the street," the new FTR x Roland Sands Design collection "enables riders to customize their FTR 1200 with RSD's race-inspired elements to add both style and function.
