A SIMPLE WAY TO EARN MONEY FOR YOUR FAVORITE CHARITY: Introducing Our SYNERGY 550 Club (syn·er·gy) - The combined power of a group of things when they are working together that is greater than the total power achieved by each working separately. TWO Easy Ways To PIVOT AWAY From OVERWHELM A s a business owner, there is always an unending task list to complete. Our culture perpetuates a sense of urgency to achieve our goals as soon as possible. But even once you achieve something, that celebration is typically short lived and there is always another mountain to climb. Bouncing between tasks that work towards your short-term, mid-term, and long- term goals is a rhythm that can quickly become chaotic and is easy to be overwhelmed by. I found myself in a place years ago where I felt like I was in an unending hamster wheel—running fast but making seemingly little progress. In trying to combat my unending entrepreneurial task list, I would grab my cup of coffee in the morning and head to my desk—and not get up until the end of the day. When I approached tasks in this manner, it was quickly burning me out. Something had to change. I eventually found that I could shift my perspective on my unending tasks— and it wasn’t all that difficult. #1 - Breakfast before Coffee I love the word synergy because, to me, it represents a true win-win situation between all parties involved. That is our #1 goal in our company’s “Sales Oath of Honor.” The greatest form of flattery we receive are business referrals from our friends and satisfied customers. We are grateful for the opportunities and relationships that we are entrusted with and want to reward you for sharing your business connections. That is why we created our SYNERGY 550 Club. If you refer a qualified prospect to us that results in a proposal, we will provide you a $50 gift certificate. If your referral becomes a client, you or your favorite charity will receive a minimum of $500. For instance, a great referral would be a company in the NY Metro Area with 5 to 50 computers that needs help with their phones, network, data backups, e-mail server, or is just interested in having a second opinion about an IT topic. Another great referral would be a company with 15–500 printers/copiers that needs help with managing them efficiently and cost effectively. AMEXCLUSIVE.COM/SYNERGY I am not a person that is typically hungry in the morning, but I started to make it a habit to have something, even just one piece of toast, before I had any coffee. While the boost from coffee can get you into the productive mind-set, without food, I have found that I get too much of a boost that can have an effect on how the unending task list feels. Do I want to feel like I am carrying a huge weight? Or would I rather feel optimistic about my capacity to accomplish what I need to by taking one step at a time? #2 - Go Outside and Shift Your Attention The second thing I did was to make sure that at least once during the day, I got out of the office and spent at least five minutes where I just paid attention to my outdoor surroundings, getting my mind off of work. While I think it is preferable to take two to three breaks throughout the day that are 10 to 15 minutes long, sometimes it is hard to break away from the immediate things that need to be taken care of. By just holding myself accountable for at least the one break, I started the pivot I needed to change my perspective. Perspective is everything. When you don’t recharge your body, you aren’t at your best self. When you aren’t at your best self, things can quickly shift to feel more out of control than they actually are. In the words of author Karen Salmansohn, “[a]nxiety happens when you think you have to figure out everything all at once. Breathe. You’re strong. You got this. Take it day by day.”
