WORLD LANGUAGE :

AP Spanish Language and Culture :
Fall : This class is aligned to the College Board curriculum and standards . Students develop their Spanish language skills and learn about the cultures in Spanish-speaking parts of the world , specifically Chile where we spend between six and seven weeks per semester . Students will have opportunities to view media and read literature in the target language . Listening comprehension will include authentic resources such as radio , films , music , and guest speakers or field trips . Interpersonal communication skills will flourish through our partnerships with local high schools and paddling clubs in Chile , along with service learning near our Chilean campus . Students practice written communication through writing stories , letters , emails , essays , and other texts . Fall content is aligned with College Board units 1-3 .
Spring : In AP Spanish , the curriculum is designed to challenge students with 100 % target language use , preparation for the AP exam , as well as authentic language application ( see fall description above ). Spring semester students receive increased practice prior to the AP exam through online progress checks and other assignments which mirror AP exam questions . Spring content is aligned with College Board units 4-6 .
English Reinforcement :
Fall : For our Chilean students , emergent bilinguals , and English Language Learners , we offer an English Reinforcement class in lieu of a Spanish class . This class is tailored to fit students ’ needs each semester , but is intended as a place for students to have guided instruction or support by a licensed teacher . Often , this class functions as a tutored study hall . English Reinforcement also has the potential to serve as a platform for structured ELL lessons ( English Language Learner ) if needed .
Spring : Same as , or similar to , Fall semester .
