The Alvarado school system was established in 1908 on College Hill , which is where the current AISD administration building sits on Bill Jackson Drive .
The original school was just a log cabin , Alvarado conducted school , church services and court hearings outside during fair weather . The Masonic Lodge established the Masonic Institute , which later became Alvarado Normal Institute , and later Alvarado ISD in 1908 .
Alvarado ISD serves almost 3,800 scholars and employs over 500 educators .
Last May , residents passed a $ 125 million bond package to add a new elementary school , renovations to Lillian Elementary School and Alvarado Intermediate School , new baseball and softball fields and a new gymnasium at Alvarado High School .
When the projects are completed , Alvarado ISD will have completed its transition to three pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary schools , one sixth- and eighth-grade junior high and one ninth- through 12th-grade high school .
