AUTUMN SEASON (SHARADA RITU)
In this season sky is filled with scanty white clouds and earth is damped with
water. Though the sun is hot, the heat effect is normal. Air is damp and hot.
Atmosphere is clear. Effect of moon is moderate. Land is slightly wet-muddy and
covered with lush green grass, water is clear and pure due to rays of rising of
many stars. According to modern day calendar it falls in the season of
September, October and November.
This season has the dominance of 2 doshas PITTA dosha in the first
half of the season and VATA dosha in the second half.
LIFESTYLE
1. One should avoid heavy food as the
digestive fire is just moderate.
2. Person should save himself from
direct sun light and eastern winds
3. Never sleep in day time.
4. Clothes should not be loose and of
light colours.
5. One should purify his body by
laxative therapies.
6. This season is also considered to be
the best time for performing Detox
therapies
like
Panchakarma.

DIET
1. Person should use Astringent, Sweet and Bitter taste in this season.
2. One should eat brown rice, barley, and green gram.
3. Person should consume sugar products, honey, Gooseberry (Emblica officinale) and
grapes.
4. One should avoid heavy foods, Yogurt, too much oils and alcohol.
It is very obvious thing that a season would not change suddenly. In between two
season there is a transitional period which is called ritu sandhi kaalam. In this phase
there is a combined effect of both the seasons, the previous one and other which
have to come. It is of 14 days duration and consists of last week of the outgoing
season and first week of in coming season. In this phase the seasonal regimen of
previous season should be gradually omitted and regimen of the forthcoming season
should be gradually introduced.
If one does not follow this regimen properly then there will be imbalance of the
doshas in the body and will lead to some diseases.
