From 2003 to 2005, I led a ‘National Midwifery Recruitment and Retention Project’, funded by the Department of Health in England, to increase the numbers of midwives practicing, retain them, and return those no longer practicing. It feels as though politics and price-cuts have abandoned the very people who support the birth of our future. Earlier this year, after 25 years of an incredible, mostly uplifting journey ‘practicing’ as a midwife, walking alongside hundreds of women growing, birthing and nurturing their babies, I decided to let go of that ‘profession’ and focus on a new chapter in my life. As young student midwife, (1988) I continue to support birth; I’ve just re-routed my path. I now inspire people to embrace and celebrate all this world has to offer, recognizing and releasing limiting beliefs they’ve formed about themselves and life, in order to push through selfimposed limitations and deliver an extraordinary life. I’m setting the foundations of a business as a self-employed Holistic Life Coach. Many of my clients to date have been fellow midwives. We give so much of ourselves as women, often taking on the role of ‘rescuer’, and find it challenging to say ‘no’. I’ve found over the years that every midwife has a story to tell of why they ‘became’ a midwife. For most, it’s a passion, a calling; a powerful pull to be a part of new life. The moment a baby is born, breathes, and cries, is the most amazing experience. As a Life Coach, I also have a story to tell of my ‘why’. It’s from the messages I heard as a child, the stories I told myself about the world and where I fit in it, the choices I’ve made along the way that have led me to where I am today, and the passion to make a difference, even to one person, in order for them to realize how special they are, and how much they (unknowingly) limit themselves from abundant love, joy and happiness. I’m privileged to be able to listen deeply to the stories clients unravel about their lives, exploring their ‘why’ - often for the first time. “I discovered that I had unresolved issues from the past that I was not addressing and that these issues were preventing me from moving forwards and living life to the full potential.” Grow your dream seeds © Yoganne 10
