We began with a full day on Thursday with Dr. Mario Fucinari explaining all the important principals for diagnosis and CPT coding as they are applied to the carrier policies for 2016. This 8-hour seminar, sponsored by NCMIC, offered full time doctors a 5% discount and part-time doctors a 2.5% discount for three years on the renewal of their NCMIC malpractice insurance premium. NCMIC also sponsored our lunch break for the day.
Friday morning we welcomed our exhibitors and began a full day of lecture tracks for DC/ND/AOM and Massage Therapy. DC/NDs started with a great two-hour presentation by Dr. Spencer Baron and Dr. Cindy Howard covering current and researched concepts in concussion, diagnosis, management and treatment, as well as prevention strategies with nutrition concepts (pre- and post-concussion) included in the lectures.
The AOM track was a full 10 hours on physical exams and orthopedic / neurologic tests and their AOM interpretation. The Massage Therapy morning schedule began with Kristin Hovious, MT, presenting, "Filling Your Communication Toolbox," then intertwined with the other discipline schedules the rest of the day.
National University's very own provided an interesting section of research projects and scholarly works currently in progress or recently completed at the University. Our research panel consisted of Drs. Christopher Arick, Jerrilyn Cambron, Gregory Cramer, and Fraser Smith.
Attendees were then treated to a campus tour to see all of the wonderful changes that have been made over the years. Dr. Jerrilyn Cambron and her volunteers guided alumni around to specific locations around the campus and talked about the different improvements. The tours ended at the Student Center where everyone gathered for a delicious lunch, sponsored by NCMIC, and to listen to Dr. Joseph Stiefel give his annual President's Address. Dr. Stiefel also took some time to recognize several individuals for their service to the university and present them with awards.
The Friday afternoon lecture was split so attendees could choose between two options: Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy or Animal Chiropractic - A Two-Profession Approach with Pedro Luis Rivera, DVM; or How Do You Practice: Intra-, Cross-, Multi-, Inter-, or Transdisciplinary?, with Dr. Daniel Strauss. Both sessions were attention-grabbing!
We ended the day with Dr. John Campione's presentation on RockTape, introducing the concept of movement therapy and enhancement via functional taping methods.
Saturday, our last day, we began with the ever-popular Dr. Evan Gwilliam sharing how to document diagnosis and procedures in a way that will satisfy any auditor. Great information here! Next up was Dr. David Radford sharing his knowledge on the core principles of functional medicine – describing epigenetics and our daily effects on the human genome, human development and chronic disease.
