Raring to experience the adventure

Cadets all bright eyed and
bushy tailed met at RAF
Cosford for a day of exhilarating helicopter flying at RAF
Shawbury on Thursday 17th
April.
As a reward for assisting
RAF Shawbury last July at their
annual Families Day, 2497
(Cosford) Squadron were invited back for a series of flights
in a Squirrel helicopter.
Following a health and
safety talk, everyone from
Cosford squadron, plus a few
cadets from Shawbury squadron (including the staff!) were
raring to experience the adventure of flying – some for
their first time.
pilot demonstrated - by not
controlling the height and direction of the helicopter, it
would plummet down; which
gave our stomachs a surprise!
Cadets were divided into
groups of four with each group
having fifteen minutes up in
the sky.
After all groups had
flown, Flight Lieutenant Vince,
Civilian Instructor Scott and a
Civilian Instructor from Shawbury squadron were also given
the opportunity to fly in the
Squirrel Helicopter.
During the flight, the pilot
explained the purpose of the
aircraft and how it was used
during different situations, including how to take off in
snowy and sandy conditions.

All in all, it’s fair to say
that everyone enjoyed themselves and were grateful for

During Presentation Evening 2013 I set the squadron
a target, for the website to be visited 25000 times by
the end of the Summer 2014 - and we did it!
