PRESENTATION EVENING
By Cdt. D. Willey
Cdt. N. Lofthouse, Cdt. J. Smart. CI Burgess also received an
award, and Sgt. Stokes was promoted to the rank of Flight
Sergeant.
1st June 2013
Presentation Evening is always an event anticipated by the whole
squadron. It is a time to socialize, meet the guest of honour
(Wing Commander Wilson) and to hope for (and in some cases) to
proudly receive awards. This night was no different. We all
arrived at seven for a start shortly after half past. As the Wing
Commander came to attention at the front FS. T. Frost marched
the banner to the front, and the evening officially began!
We began with a silent two minutes in respect to Cpl. Georgia
Williams, and then the Wing Commander gave his opening
speech. The evening was arranged so that there was the reception
of some awards, followed by some Cadet NCO presentations; then
some more awards, and couple more presentation. Those
deserving cadets who had been chosen were, Sgt. J Alder (twice),
Cdt. R. Blackshaw, Cpl. S. Cox, Cpl. C. Dowd, Cdt. T. Goodyear,
Wg. Cmdr. Wilson and Cpl. S. Cox
There was also some interesting talks given by the NCO’s
regarding recent squadron activities. One of the most inspiring
personally was the presentation about the Gliding Scholarship
given by Cpl. Cox. My elder brother (ex-Sgt. Willey) also achieved
his silver wings, and so I am aware of the sacrifice necessary to
gain this award. However, I believe that it is worth the effort, and
I hope also to get it.
The evening finished off with refreshments and an opportunity to
relax and discuss the night. Around a quarter to ten, cadets and
their families began drifting out in the cool night air. It had been
an enjoyable evening of socialization and reflection! ?
